Obama Ipsum

They would give me an African name, Barack, or “blessed,” believing that in a tolerant America your name is no barrier to success. They know those things. But we shouldn’t use our humility as an excuse for inaction. And now is the time to keep the promise of equal pay for an equal day’s work, because I want my daughters to have exactly the same opportunities as your sons. The question is whether we spend that time focused on what pushes us apart, or whether we commit ourselves to an effort – a sustained effort – to find common ground, to focus on the future we seek for our children, and to respect the dignity of all human beings.

John Kerry understands the ideals of community, faith, and service because they’ve defined his life. John Kerry believes in America. This belief comes from my unyielding faith in the decency and generosity of the American people. We were founded upon the ideal that all are created equal, and we have shed blood and struggled for centuries to give meaning to those words – within our borders, and around the world. Trade can bring new wealth and opportunities, but also huge disruptions and changing communities. It is easier to start wars than to end them.

Louis, and thousands more like her, who has the grades, has the drive, has the will, but doesn’t have the money to go to college. John Kerry believes in an America where all Americans can afford the same health coverage our politicians in Washington have for themselves. We have real enemies in the world. Not even close. It was a peaceful and determined insistence upon the ideals at the center of America’s founding.

And it offends our conscience. And meeting them won’t be easy. As President, I will tap our natural gas reserves, invest in clean coal technology, and find ways to safely harness nuclear power.

But the truth is, that isn’t all that I know of the man. Let me express my thanks to the historic slate of candidates who accompanied me on this journey, and especially the one who traveled the farthest – a champion for working Americans and an inspiration to my daughters and to yours – Hillary Rodham Clinton. So let there be no doubt: the situation for the Palestinian people is intolerable. And just as it devastates Palestinian families, the continuing humanitarian crisis in Gaza does not serve Israel’s security; neither does the continuing lack of opportunity in the West Bank. Finally, I want to discuss economic development and opportunity.

Thank you.
